Beautiful place to visit
Such a beautiful place to spend your day with friends. Great views and a wonderful place to take a breath of fresh air.
There are several good ponds worth checking out on the refuge, go to the visitor center on Hwy 148 for information of all the above mentioned. And as for Crab Orchard lake it produces lots of crappie and is a decent bass lake. Good average size.
What I like best is Little Grassy lake, see my review of Little grassy campground. Devils kitchen is a remote Canadian style lake, very deep and clear. Rainbow trout catchable most all year. Bass fishing is ok, meaning there are lots of small bass and some 10 lb monsters. But not a lot in between. A good Red ear bluegill population, which are bottom feeders, so read up on how to fish for them. I have seen a small hook with a split shot a few inches up the line thrown in without a bobber, catching fish. Maybe they were on spawning bed, I'm not sure. A good kayaking lake, 4 launch points I know of. The best is from Grassy creek on the south east arm of the lake. See map there is a road there , but I'm not sure it is on this map. You can find it if you go near the makes waypoint.
Really helpful.
